Local 870 Custodial Unit Supports Community
Members of the Copiague full-time custodial unit recently aided their community through two generous gifts.

Shown in the photo, graduating Copiague High School seniors Sacajewana Idlett, fourth from left, and Verlanis Espinal, received $600 Bruce Williams Memorial Scholarship Fund Awards from Pat Cirasole, president of the Copiague custodial Unit of Educational Local 865.
First, a pair of $600 scholarships was presented to Sacajewana Idlett and Verlenis Espinal, outstanding recent graduates of Copiague High School. Second, $300 was donated to the food pantry of the Miraculous Medal Roman Catholic Church in Wyandanch.

Nearly all of the unit's 34 members contributed to the gifts, according to Pat Cirasole, unit president. This was the second year the scholarships were awarded. They are named in honor of Bruce Williams, an active union member who passed on shortly before the inaugural presentation last year.

In the fall, Idlett will attend Suffolk County Community College while Espinal continues her studies at St. Joseph's College in Patchogue. "These are good kids who work hard," said Cirasole.

Shown in the photo are Rev. Bill Brisotti, left receiving $300 worth of gift certificates from Pat Cirasole, second from right as Frank Peralta, second from left, and Nick LaMorte look on.
The union chose the two young women from a list of candidates prepared by Jaime Suarez, a social studies teacher at the high school and advisor of SOUL, the Student Organization of Unified Leaders. Both winners were active in the group.

Rev. Bill Brisotti, pastor of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, accepted the gift for the food pantry, which has been providing food to needy people since 1975.

With the award recipients are, left to right, Scott Kelly, unit vice president; Joe Chirco, unit treasurer; Region President Nick La Morte; Jaime Suarez, a social studies teacher at the High School; Frank Peralta, unit vice president elect and retiree Bob Zuccarello.
