Ramos & Company should be investigated

A delegation of Democrats in Albany continue to hold Suffolk residents hostage, using its voting power as a weapon to hold up an important piece of legislation that would extend Suffolk's sales tax. It means millions will be lost unless that measure is passed.

That, in and of itself is illegal. What is more unconscionable, however, is the fact that these lawmakers are withholding their vote on an important issue to get Suffolk to do something illegal- open a hiring hall to facilitate bringing together illegal aliens with those looking to hire them. The delegation is led by none other than Suffolk's Assembly Democratic from Central Islip, Philip Ramos.

Sometimes we wonder if the folks in Albany are just trying to see if the rest of the state is awake when they pull shanagans like this. Certainly we cannot comprehend such an arrogant abuse of power and nose thumbing of our laws by those sworn to serve.

That is second only to our disbelief that these lawmakers are not being investigated for their illegal actions. Where is the Attorney General? Is he too busy investigating the Spitzer-gate fiasco to first, let these lawmakers know that they are violating their oaths of office and second to hold them accountable?

Suffolk County Exec. Steve Levy has, once again, taken the high road and bucked political pressure to do the right - and lawful- thing. He has refused to be intimidated by these bullies, despite the high stakes, and stands between them and the public that has put them all into office.

But we demand more. We want every political official in this state to call upon these renegades to back down. And we want them to face the full measure of the law for their legal violations.
