Nancy Eickelberg: Amityville Matriarch and volunteer

Loving mother and grandmother Nancy S. Eickelberg died June 24, 2007 at Broadlawn Manor Nursing Home in Amityville after fighting a long battle with Alzheimers. She was 81-years-old and a longtime Amityville resident who was involved in several local

clubs.

Born August 17, 1925 to John and Florence (Clarke) Schneider in Queens, she dedicated her life to taking care of her beloved family. She lived in Massapequa from 1954 to 1964, before moving to Amityville where she lived for 43 years.

According to her daughter, Janet, she was happiest surrounded by her family and friends. She was a gifted painter of seascapes who also loved to read and sew.

From 1978 to 1980, she was president of the Amityville Woman's Club and was active until 1998. She was also a longtime member of the Amityville Historical Society and a parishioner at St. Martin's of Tours R.C.Church in Amityville where she was a Eucharistic Minister and a volunteer at the church's thrift shop.

Mrs. Eickelberg leaves behind her children: Bill and his wife Tricia, Peggy Larkin and her husband Bob, Bob and his wife Julie, and Janet Beshlian and her husband Maurice; her grandchildren: Matthew, Grace, Brian, Graham, Michael, Thomas, Ann, Kathleen and Betsy. She was predeceased by her ex-husband, Prof. W. Warren B. Eickelberg in 1999.

A prayer service was conducted at the Powell Funeral Home, Amityville, on June 28, 2007. Father Paul Manning, a cousin of Mrs. Eickelberg, officiated at the Mass of Christian Burial in St. Martin of Tours R.C. Church, Amityville, assisted by the Consolation Ministry and members of the family. Interment followed at Mt. St. Mary's Cemetery.

Memorial donations in Mrs. Eickelberg's name can be sent to the Alzheimer's Association, L.I. Chapter, 3281 Veteran's Memorial Highway, Suite E13, Ronkonkoma, NY 11779.
