For the third time this year, Amityville Memorial High School athletes have taken the stage to be recognized for the hard work they put forth both in the classroom and on the playing field. District Athletic Director Jonathon Bloom has started a new tradition with his Sports Awards Nights and season highlight video he produces himself, which is proudly viewed by the deserving athletes and their families at the end of each awards ceremony.

Noted for their achievements this season were the Boys Tennis team, Girls Track and Field team, Boys Track and Field team, Golf team, Softball team, and Baseball team. "These awards nights have been a long time coming," stated Boys Tennis team Coach Rich Pellegrino at the last awards ceremony of the year. "I want to thank Mr. Bloom and his secretary Rita Gordon for giving Amityville coaches and athletes more opportunities to recognize the hard work and dedication of the members of our sports program."

Shown in the photo is the Amityville Memorial High School boys' track team, at the Spring Sports Awards, captured the League title and the Nassau County Championship for 2007.
This season, the boys track team, under the direction of Coaches Reynolds Hawkins and Jerry Pollack, had a great run, capturing the League title and Nassau County Championship title. In addition, almost half of the team qualified as All League Players, and sophomore Rashim Gaines held the record for third fastest runner on Long Island for the Intermediate Hurdles division. A final highlight of the season was when seven Amityville athletes qualified for the "All Academic Team" by maintaining grade point averages during the season above 90 percent, with Joseph Burke holding the highest GPA overall with a 97 percent.
