Amityville Memorial High School recently held its 59th Annual Edward Reed Gage Chapter National Honor Society Inductions. Under the guidance of advisor Heather Persan more than two dozen students who are committed to scholarship, service, leadership and character entered into the prestigious society. Current National Honor Society President and graduating senior Jessica Hernandez served as the Master of Ceremonies, and the Jazz Band, under the direction of music educator Chris LaMarca, provided musical accompaniment for the inductees and their guests.
Accomplishments of National Honor Society students were highlighted during the ceremony, including numerous fundraisers for charity and local residents in need of assistance, and participation in a tutoring program to benefit district elementary students. In addition to the swearing in of the new inductees, current honor society members participated in an "Educator Recognition" segment of the program, where they chose up to five teachers throughout their educational careers who were particularly inspiring, and publicly recognized those teachers for their guidance and tutelage.
