Francis Vanek: 51-year Amityville Resident & IRS Clerk

Longtime Amityville resident Francis "Frank" M. Vanek died May 22, 2007 at Good Samaritan in West Islip. He was 83 years old and had lived in Amityville since 1956.

Born December 27, 1913 in St. Albans, Queens to Joseph M. and Anna (Ward), he proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Before his retirement, he worked as a clerk for the Internal Revenue Service.

According to his family, Mr. Vanek was a devout, longtime member of the St. Martin of Tours R.C. Church, Amityville.

He leaves behind his children and sons- and daughters in-law: Agnes "Zippy" Vanek, of Herndon, Pennsylvania, Patricia A. Batewell and her husband Thomas of Highland Mills, New York and John H. and his wife Barbara of East Islip, New York; his six grandchildren; his sister, Joan Mary Griffiths; his companion, Norma. He was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Agnes and his son, Joseph F.

Mr. Vanek reposed at the Powell Funeral Home, 67 Broadway, Amityville on May 24, 2007. Father Richard T. Stelter, pastor, St. Martin's Church. officiated at a Mass of Christina Burial assisted by the Consolation Ministry and members of the family was held May 25, 2007. Interment with Military Honors followed in St. Charles Cemetery.
