Nurse Sweeney puts nutrition first at Northeast Elementary School

Linda Sweeney, a school nurse at Northeast Elementary School in the Amityville Public School District, does more than bandage skinned knees. Sweeney puts healthy food choices and nutrition at the top of her list when it comes to caring for her students. With the support of Principal Pauline Collins, the community-based organization C.O.M.P.A.S.S. and the APTC, Sweeney brought certified nutritionist Phyllis Trigg to Northeast kindergarten classrooms, where students, shown in photo, participated in a brief lesson about the food pyramid, completed a craft, and tasted a variety of healthy foods.
