Roxana Hernandez receives Jay Collins Scholarship

A scholarship in the name of Jay (James) Collins was awarded to Amityville Memorial High School student Roxana Hernandez on June 7. The $500 annual award was established in the name of the late Collins, an active Amityville community member and all-around athlete, by his sister Diane Baksh, her fiance Kevin Milton and her children, Brittany and David Baksh. Carmine Diorio of Dariene Coffee Company Inc., (James' former employer) matched the award with an additional $500, which was presented to Victor Sims Turner.

Until his death, Collins faithfully attended all the Amityville High School games. In North Amityville, he started the first Narcotics Anonymous Program (to which he remained dedicated until his death). Collins also loved to work, mentor, coach, and play with young people

of all ages. His life was marked by his commitment to community service, said his sister.
