Students receive recognition through “positive action” program

Students at Park Avenue Elementary School in the Amityville Public School District have reason to get caught doing something good, specifically, the recognition they receive through the "Positive Action" program. Teachers, administrators, teacher assistants, bus drivers, and custodians all are on the lookout for students who are seen upholding standards of good character that are reinforced in the daily lessons and operations of the school.

If "caught," students receive a Positive Action ticket. Those students who collect the most tickets over a period of time are treated to popcorn and a movie in the school's auditorium. Shown are fourth graders David Hobbins, left, and Philip McFarlane, right. David received a Positive Action ticket when he found money on the floor in the hallway. As he was returning the cash,

Philip was also entering the main office to report that he lost his money. The end result was a win-win for all.
