St. Martin of Tours in Amityville helps make a child's wish come true

Amityville's St. Martin of Tours eighth grade teacher, Mrs. Ryan, and her class got together and enlisted the help of the school for Shane Bernier, a little boy in Canada who is dying. He is suffering from Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and there is nothing he can do but sit in a hospital bed. He will be turning eight years old and he has a birthday wish. His wish is to receive enough birthday cards to break the world record. He would like to be in the Guinness Book of World Records. Each class at St. Martin's school made a birthday card for Shane. Patricia Savish's third grade class made 200 cards, the most of any class.

Shown in the photo is the third grade class with all their cards.

Shown in the photo below are members of Mrs. Ryan's eighth grade class who helped her count all the cards. From left to right are William Ahrens, Abigail Agostino, Mrs. Ryan, Emily Diliberto and Andrew Bilello.
