Amityville resident Patricia Falk receives Faculty Distinguished Achievement Award

Professor Patricia Falk, a resident of Amityville and professor of English at Nassau Community College, Garden City, was a recipient of the NCC Faculty Distinguished Achievement Award in a ceremony held on April 11 at Nassau Community College. The Faculty Distinguished Achievement Awards were instituted to recognize outstanding scholarship and professional accomplishments among both full and part-time members of the College faculty.

Professor Falk has been a member of the fulltime faculty at Nassau community College since 1988. She received her graduate degrees in English at the City University of New York and the Graduate Center of CUNY. Professor Falk has received several awards for her poetry and scholarship. She's the recipient of a prior NCC Distinguished Faculty achievement Award for the publication of her book of poetry In the Shape of a Woman; an Edward C. Mack Memorial Fellowship through the City University of New York; a Vermont Studio Center Writer's Grant; and poetry awards from The National League of American PenWomen, Black Bear Review and The National Writer's Voice Project, among others. In addition to In the Shape of a Woman, Professor Falk has written two other books: Crazy Jane and It Happens as We Speak: A Feminist Poetics, and edited the contemporary poetry anthology Sightings: Poems on Discover.

According to Dr. Jack Ostling, Vice President of Academic Affairs, "The accomplishments of our faculty this year are as outstanding and diverse as the individuals whose achievements we celebrate. This individuals have taken their scholarship and talent beyond the classroom and as a result have both informed and enriched the teaching and learning mission of the College."
