William Ball: Attorney longtime Amity resident

Longtime Amityville resident William "Bill" Ball who was active in community groups died April 30, 2007 at Tavares Hospice Center in Florida after a lengthy illness. He was 76 years old and spent his entire life in the same home in Amityville and wintered in Leesburg, Florida.

He was born May 14, 1930 in Mount Kisco, New York to W. Homer and Clara (Bailey), he was raised on Bayview Avenue in Amityville and graduated its schools. In 1952 he graduated from Harvard University and in 1956 from Harvard Law School. His father was a well-known athletic director in Amityville for many years.

In 1994, he retired from Sterling Drug, Inc. where he held the position of corporate attorney in the trademark division from 1968 to 1994.

"He was the most honest person I've ever known. He was a fantastic role model," said his younger brother, Roger.

Mr. Ball served as Lay Leader and chairman of several committees at the First United Methodist Church in Amityville, was a longtime member of the Unqua Corinthian Yacht Club and the Silver Bay Association in Silver Bay, New York. He also served at various posts of the US Trademark Association and was also a contributor to the Trademark Reporter, a professional periodical.

He leaves behind his brother, Roger of East Longmeadow, Massachusetts; his niece, Kimberly Henrichon of Southampton, Massachusetts; his nephew, Andrew of New York City; his grand niece, Jilian Clara Henrichon; and his grand nephew, Colin Henrichon.

Cremation was private. A memorial service will be held at a later date at First United Methodist Church in Amityville.
