Ellen Smith: Brunswick Hospital receptionist, 73 Ellen Marie Smith, a devoted mother and grandmother who was active in St. Martin of Tours R.C. Church in Amityville, died May 2, 2007 at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip. She was 73 years old. Born June 18, 1933 in Brooklyn to Patrick J. and Catherine (Croke) Lyons, she worked as a receptionist in Brunswick Hospital Center in Amityville for many years. She was past president of of the Rosary Society and Eucharistic Minister at St. Martin of Tours R.C. Church. Mrs. Smith leaves behind her husband of almost 52 years, William D., a retired Amityville Village Police Officer; her children: William P., Catherine A. Mulrain and her husband William, Mary Ellen and her husband Arthur, James E., Patrick J. and his wife Donna and Patricia Micara and her husband Peter; her nine grandchildren. Rev. Richard T. Stelter, pastor, St. Martin of Tours Church, officiated at a Mass of Christian Burial, in the church, assisted by the Consolation Ministry and members of the family. Interment followed in the Amityville Cemetery. Mrs. Smith was escorted by the New York State Troopers, the Suffolk County and the Amityville police departments. In addition to her husband, her two sons are Police Officers, one in New York City and the other with New York State Troopers based in Farmingdale. Arrangements were under the direction of the Powell Funeral Home, Inc., Amityville.
