For the past 10 years, seniors at Walter G. O'Connell Copiague High School have been sharing their youthful jubilance for the holidays with local senior citizens during the school's annual Senior-to-Senior Dinner/Dance. Weeks of preparations by administrators, teachers, students, and staff turned the evening into an unforgettable event for the more than 300 local senior citizen residents in attendance, as well as the more than 100 volunteer high school seniors. The Senior-to-Senior Dinner/Dance provides an opportunity for the District and the Senior Class to thank its senior citizens for their continued support.

"This is a great night for everyone involved," stated Bethany Pokorny, Senior Class Co-Advisor. "It's a positive experience for the senior class to give something back to the community. It also gives them a chance to learn some better dance moves," she added with a laugh.

One of the highlights of the night came on the dance floor when the two generations came together to perform the legendary Electric Slide and its newer counterpart, The Cha Cha Slide. Laughter could be heard throughout the halls as the young and young-at-heart enjoyed each other's company.

During the dinner, everyone in attendance was treated to a stellar performance from the award-winning Madrigal Choir and an original step dance from the high school Step Team, the Steppers. Under the direction of Larry Wurtzel, the students performed selections from their winter concert program, including a show-stopping rendition of Hallelujah from The Messiah by George Frederic Handel.

Lynn Lyons-Atlas, who has helped organize the spectacular event for the last ten years, summed up the night best when she stated, "I feel that we've become a family. Year after year, you continue to support our students, and for that we thank you."
