Sgt. Arnold Winn honored

Sgt. Arnold R. Winn, son of Amityville resident Ruth Winn and the late Willie Winn, was honored on March 23 at the General Leonardwood Military Hospital in Missouri for 26 years of military service.

Sgt. Winn is a 1970 graduate of Amityville Memorial High School and a graduate of Farmingdale College. After two years attendance at Stony Brook University he began six years of service in the U.S. Air force and completed the remaining 20 years in the U.S. Army serving in Stuttgart, Germany; Saudi Arabia and Heidelberg, Germany. St. Winn completed the highest certification as an x-ray technician and was recently cited in the January 2007 edition of the General Leonardwood Hospital newsletter, The Heartbeat, for special services towards a military family.

Sgt. Winn is the grandson of the late Fletcher and Lizzie Booker of Riverhead; the great nephew of the late Bolden Mack of whom a park is named after in Amityville and the grandson of the late Franger and Minnie Winn of Freeport.

In March, Sgt. Winn received three certificates, one from the President of the United States, one from the U.S. Army and another from the Governor of New York.
