Edmund W. Miles Middle school to present Seussical Junior May 11

Amityville's Edmund W. Miles Middle School students will unlock the imaginations of Amityville citizens when they bring the Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, Mayzie La Bird, the Whos in Whoville and other Seuss favorites to life with their production of Seussical Junior.

"These students must demonstrate tremendous creativity and energy in bringing this whimsical world to life, while remaining sensitive to the show's subtle themes and meaningful lessons," says Gershon. "MTI hopes their audience outnumbers all the Whos in Whoville," he adds. MTI, through its Educational Division (named MTI Education), works with the authors of classic musicals to create special editions suitable for ages eight to fourteen to perform.

Two performances will begin May 11 at Amityville Memorial High school, located at 250 Merrick Rd. For more information on how to see the performance, please call 631-789-6253.

MTI Education offers the vast majority of students their first experience with one of America's truly unique art forms: musical theatre. Gershon began developing the program in 1995, with the first production "bowing" in 1998, motivated by his belief that musical theatre could be translated to life-enhancing experiences for children. MTI Education has five parts: the Broadway Junior Collection (70 minute musicals for middle school performers); MTI Kids Collection (30 minute musicals designed for performance by elementary school students); MTI School Editions (geared for high school performers); Theatre For Young Audiences (condensed musicals for adults to perform for kids) and its role in the MacMillan McGraw-Hill Spotlight on Music Textbook which makes musical theatre part of the curriculum offered in thousands of schools throughout the country.
