George Fuchs, Jr.: decorated WWII Veteran

Longtime Amity Harbor resident George Fuchs, Jr. died March 16, 2007 at East Neck Nursing Center in West Babylon. He was 80 years old.

Born April 19, 1926 in New York, New York to Bertha (Bartels) and George Sr., he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

For many years Mr. Fuchs worked as an electrical engineer for Grumman Aerospace in Bethpage.

Mr. Fuchs leaves behind his children: George D. and his wife Kathy of Amityville, Linda Thiede and her husband Olaf of Damascus, Pennsylvania and Lois Everett and her husband Drew of Nesconset, New York; his grandchildren: Kate, Brian, Mark, William and Laura Everett. He was predeceased by his wife Lillian in March, 2005.

A prayer service was conducted at the Powell Funeral Home, 67 Broadway, Amityville, on March 20, 2007. Rev. Carl Happ, pastor of Grace Lutheran Church in Central Islip, officiated at the funeral service at the funeral home on March 20, 2007. Interment followed in National Cemetery at Pinelawn, with military honors.
