Second half of taxes due

Babylon Town Receiver of Taxes Corinne DiSomma stated that 2006/ 2007 second half taxes are due and payable in her office at 200 East Sunrise Hwy., Lindenhurst, on or before Thursday, May 31. The office hours at 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. For your convenience, the office will remain open until 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 31. Town Hall will be closed Monday, May 28 in observance of Memorial Day.

Partial payments are acceptable with penalty pursuant to Resolution #551-2001. For your convenience, Discover/NOVUS credit will be accepted for payment of taxes in person or by mail only. Also offered is credit card payment through a telephone service or by the internet which includes American Express, Mastercard, Visa or Discover. For payments by telephone call 1-800- 2PAY-TAX (1-800-272-9829) or visit the website at www.officialpayments.com. At the prompt, use Jurisdiction code 4232. Credit card transaction fee will be incurred by cardholder. Discover/ NOVUS transaction fee may vary according to payment method.

Anyone paying taxes by mail, pursuant to Real Property Tax Law 925 - will avoid penalty and interest if the envelope bears proper postage and an official post office date stamp (a private postage meter stamp is not acceptable) - no later than the last day to pay in person. Deposit in a local Post office will not insure a postmark on that date. Check with your local postmaster prior to mailing. In accordance with the Suffolk County Tax Act, taxes paid after May 31 must be paid to the Suffolk County Treasurer with penalty and interest. Thereafter fees increase.
