St.William the Abbot school essay contest winners

The students at St. William the Abbot school recently entered the Catholic Daughters Essay Contest. The themes of the contest were The Beauty of God's Creation and Taking Time for Others. The students could use a variety of methods to express their feelings. It could be through an essay, poetry, art, a poster, computer art, or photography. Fourteen students from the school placed first, second or third in the contest.

The Catholic Daughters of the Americas is a national organization founded by the Knights of Columbus 104 years ago and is the largest Christian women's organization in the world. The organization performs fundraising for those in need (helping Habitat for Humanity, customizing homes for the handicapped, raising funds for medical needs for the uninsured) and has a scholarship and education drive annually.

The winners are as follows: Essay Division I - first place, Jack Malich fourth grader from Amityville; second place, Kyra Haskes fourth grader from Massapequa and third place, Samantha Lynch fourth grader from Massapequa. Essay Divisionh II: second place, John Cronin sixth grader from Amityville. In the Poetry Division I: third place, Timothy Distler fifth grader from Amityville. In the Art Division I are: first place, Sabrina Mia Tomassetti 4th grader from Massapequa Park and second place, Austin Jensen, fifth grader from Bellmore. For the Poster Division I : second place, Brian Seidl, fourth grader from Seaford and Division II, third place, Meagan Mooney seventh grader from Old Brookville. Computer Art are Division I: first place, Christina Selfridge, fifth grader from Massapequa; third place,Nastassja Sarandrea, fourth grader from Levittown; Division II, second place, Quentin Lettieri sixth grader from Seaford and third place, Maxwell Griffith, sixth grader from Massapequa. Winning for photography, Division third place, Christopher Prete, sixth grader from Wantagh.
