Doc Land: longtime Amityville and Copiague resident

Longtime area resident Doctor "Doc" Land died at New Island Hospital, Bethpage, on March 23, 2007. He was 57 years old.

Born March 13, 1950 to Mary Ellen Crank and Buford Byrd in Kings Mountain, North Carolina, they moved to Amityville in 1955 and graduated from its high school. They lived in Copiague for 15 years before moving back to Amityville, according to his daughter, Toni.

For many years he worked as a truck driver for Director Door in Amityville.

In his spare time he was an avid bowler and softball player who played for many local leagues such as "CBS" from 1973 to 1989, and "The Aces" from 1971 to 2005. He was also passionate about working on cars.

According to his family, he lived life to the fullest and touched many lives along the way.

Mr. Land leaves behind his wife of 36 years, Rose; his children: Toni, Antoine and Allan; his grandchildren: Antoine Jr., Andrew, Aleesha, Allan Jr., Jailyn and Jasmine; his siblings: Samuel, Linda, Familia (Ann), Sharon, Karen, Joseph and Jafar; as well as other loved ones and friends. He was predeceased by his mother, Mary, his sister, Mary Helen and his brothers: Buford Jr., Beauton, Roscoe and Oscoe.

The Rev. William H. Walker II, pastor, Amityville Full Gospel Tabernacle, officiated at the funeral service held in Holy Trinity Baptist Church. Interment followed in the Amityville Cemetery with arrangements by the Powell Funeral Home, Inc., Amityville.
