GOP headquarters in West Babylon goes on the auction block
by Carolyn James

Two signs in front of GOP headquarters tell a story. One says "Vote Republican." The other, "For Sale."

The building at Great East Neck Road inW est Babylon is being sold, according to Anthony Pancella, the Babylon Town Party Chairman.

"Today with communications the way they are and technology, there is no need for someone to actually sit at an office in headquarters," said Pancella. "Email and the internet make that kind of presence unnecessary."

So, with the building in need of maintenance and cosmetic repairs, the party has decided to sell its building, he added.

"I have been one of the few who has been saying for more than ten years that we are simply not getting use out of the building and it is costing us money to maintain," said Pancella. "I think that now many people agree."

The building is selling for $375,000 with Coldwell Banker, and the party has been in negotiations with someone who wants to use it for medical offices. That use would require a variance, however. "We have professionals looking into that," said Pancella.

Once the building is sold, the Republicans can rent space as needed, which Pancella said makes more sense. "Most parties do that," he said.
