Two Copiague brothers arrested on drug charges

Suffolk County Police arrested two Copiague brothers Wednesday, March 28, and seized their vehicle, which contained crack cocaine, heroine and cash.

Francisco Ramirez, 30, and his brother, Michael Ramirez, 25, both of 560 Scudder Ave., Copiague, were stopped by First Precinct police officers Richard Tofano and Riccardo Mascio for a traffic violation. During the stop, officers noticed unusual conditions within the 1995 Toyota Corolla that made them suspicious. Further, the behavior of the two men inside the car caused the officers to call the Canine Unit.

The Canine dog indicated narcotics inside the car and the two men were detained. A search of the car revealed two separate "traps" or secret compartments used to hide narcotics and other contraband.

Seized were 42 individually wrapped bags of crack cocaine, 14 bags of heroin and over $1,000 in cash.

A similar incident occurred on March 20, 2007, when officers received information that narcotics were being dealt from within a vehicle on South Second St. in Lindenhurst and a hidden trap was used to store heroin and cocaine.

Both suspects were charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree. They will be arraigned tomorrow at First District Court in Central Islip. The investigation is continuing.
