Mary P. Myton Literary Society holds March meeting
Everyone that had read Night was in agreement that the book was fascinating and difficult to put down once started. The descriptions of his life in the concentration camps were well written and easily brought to mind the situations he wanted the readers to feel a part of. The Mermaid Chair received mixed reviews. Several members liked the book, while others felt that the book did not live up to her previous efforts. They felt the writing was forced and almost followed a formula to put in visual imaging and allegories. The Nanny Diaries also received mixed reviews. While it was easy to read, several members felt that it described situations where the adults were shallow and self-centered. Others related knowing some parents who actually behaved in the manner described.
Immediately after the discussion coffee and tea were served with sandwiches, cookies and cupcakes. Refreshments were supplied by Sue Johnson, Jane Linehan, Betty Ann Cassero and Caroline D'Antonio.
