John Robbins, Jr., former South Oaks Board Member John Clinton "Jack" Robbins, Jr., who was born and raised in Babylon, died March 3, 2007 at his home in Irvington, Virginia. He was 92 years old. Born to John C. and Mildred (Ross), he grew up and lived on The Crescent in Babylon for 18 years. In 1985, a rehabilitation facility in South Oaks Hospital in Amityville was named in his honor of his 36 years of dedicated service as a board member. He worked for the Ordinance Department of the U.S. Army during World War II and retired from the U.S. Army Reserves as a lieutenant colonel. For 30 years he worked as a chemical engineer for the American Cyanamid Company in Bound Brook, New Jersey. He retired to Irvington in 1975. In his spare time, he was a longtime member of the Grace Episcopal Church and the Indian Creek Yacht and Country Club, both in Virginia. Mr. Robbins leaves behind his children: Carol and her husband Herb Wolff of Fearrington Village, North Carolina and John C. III and his wife Cleo of Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania; his grandchildren: Clinton of West Chester, Pennsylvania, Stephen of Santa Fe, New Mexico and Peter of Greenville, South Carolina; as well as other loved ones and friends. His wife of 64 years, Elizabeth (Triplett) predeceased him on December 28, 2006. Memorial services were held March 24, 2007 at Historic Christ Church, Irvington, Virginia with the Reverend David May officiating. Arrangements made by the Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock, Virginia. Interment of both he and his wife followed at the Historic Church Burying Ground.
