Copiague Booster Club honors Carole Olsen

To commemorate National Girls and Women in Sports Day, the Walter G. O'Connell Copiague High School Booster Club presented a plaque to Carole Olsen, girls varsity basketball coach and 21-year district employee, for her many years of dedicated service and contributions to the young women of the Copiague community.

Olsen is a C.W. Post graduate who has put in countless hours coaching field hockey, tennis, soccer, softball, volleyball and basketball. She has more than 100 victories in varsity volleyball and Varsity Basketball and was the Basketball Suffolk County and New York State Coach of the Year in 2003.

"I have been a coach for various sports for the past 24 years, 22 in Copiague," stated Olsen. "I love having the opportunity to work with the students. It's nice to be told that what you do has made a difference and means something to the community. The District Booster Club works very hard to honor and support our athletes. Receiving this award from them was very special."

The National Girls and Women In Sports Day is celebrated in all 50 states as a way of honoring the achievements and encouraging participation of girls and women in sports.
