Harold Ewers: 92, Levitt construction employee

Longtime Amityville resident, carpenter and painter Harold J. Ewers died February 22, 2007 at St. Catherine of Sienna Hospital in Smithtown, Long Island. He was 92.

Born May 27, 1914 in Brooklyn to William J. and Lillian (Fair), he later served in the U.S. Army Airforce from 1945 to 1946. For many years he worked for the Levitt Construction Company who built homes in Levittown, New York and Levittown, Virginia.

Mr. Ewers was an avid gardener who loved to grow vegetables (especially tomatoes) and flowers, in his spare time.

He leaves behind his children: Judy Dehner and her husband Bill of Port Jefferson and Diane Craffey and her husband Al of Amityville; his grandchildren: Karen Kern, Diane Goerz, Patrick and Thomas Dehner and Mary Beth Nifenecker; his great grandchildren: Kristin, Kelsey and Thomas Dehner, Brian and Amanda Nifenecker, Lori Berger and Melissa Goerz; his great great grandchildren: Tobias and Julia Berger and Jasmine Donoghue; as well as many nieces and nephews; as well as other loved ones and friends. He was predeceased by his his wife, Anna C. in November of 2003, his three sisters and three brothers.

Father Thomas McCarthy officiated at a funeral service in the Powell Funeral Home, Amityville, on February 27, 2007 followed by interment with Military Honors in Amityville Cemetery.
