Laurie Smallwood, 45: former Amityville graduate

Smallwood, a former Amityville resident, died March 3, 2007 in St. Luke's Hospice House in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. She was 45 years old.

Born February 20, 1962 in East Meadow, New York to Leonora R. "Bunnie" (Ballard) Madden and the late Ronald H. Smallwood, she was raised in Amityville, graduated from its high school in 1980 and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in physical education in 1984 from Mt. Ida College in Newtown, Massachusetts. She served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Society.

Ms. Smallwood leaves behind her mother, Leonora of Amityville; her brother, retired Air Force Master Sergeant Ronald K. and his wife Sherri of Hampton, Virginia; her uncles: Donald L. Ballard, Robert L. Ballard, Allen S. Jr. and Robert T.; her aunt, Eunice H. Oliver; her nephew and nieces: Rashawn Hawkins, Sheron and DeRon; several cousins; her best friend, Stephanie Bearden of Allentown, Pennsylvania; as well as other loved ones and friends. She was predeceased by her father, Ronald H.

She reposed at the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle, Pennsylvania, on March 9, 2007, with the Rev. Robert Reed officiating. Interment followed in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
