One Hundred Black Men of Long Island to hold awards dinner

On Saturday, March 17, the One Hundred Black Men of Long Island Inc. will honor four distinguished individuals for their extraordinary achievements in contributing to the improvement of our communities. The honorees are The Honorable David A. Paterson, New York State Lieutenant Governor who will receive the Public Service Award. Bishop Frank O. White Pastor of Zion Cathedral Church of God and Christ who will receive the Community Service Award; Ms. V. Elaine Gross President of ERASE Racism who will receive the Civil Rights Award. Mr . Anthony L. Herbert Sr. Founder of the Professionals Network Organization who will receive the Economic Empowerment Award. These four individuals will be recognized and celebrated at the annual gala.

The One Hundred Black Men organization of Long Island is one of several chapters nationwide. The purpose of the organization is to give back to the community 100 percent effort in rebuilding and strengthening our communities economically, socially and politically. Youth initiatives have been of primary focus in recent years as has the imperative to address the economic plight of Long Island communities.

Proceeds from the affair will benefit the goals and objectives of our "Four for the Future" program, as well as other program initiatives including the Newsday sponsored African American History Bowl, mentoring programs at Hempstead High School in partnership with Institute for Student Achievement , and several endowments at Hofstra University, Adelphi University, SUNY at Farmingdale and Nassau Community College.
