Copiague teacher Sherri Casey named an “Educator of Excellence

The Executive Board of the New York State English Council recently selected Sherri Casey, an English teacher at Walter G. O'Connell Copiague High School in the Copiague School District, for recognition as one of 27 Educators of Excellence for 2006. In order to receive this prestigious honor, Casey prepared a comprehensive portfolio containing lesson plans, student work, letters of recommendation, past awards, and artifacts from special projects.

"It's a delightful honor to have been recognized," stated Casey. "I'm extremely happy to represent the high school English department." Casey is a graduate of the Copiague School District and has taught at the high school for more than 30 years.

She was honored on October 20 at the New York State E n g l i s h Council Annual Conf e r e n c e Award Lunc h e o n , which was held at the D e s m o n d Conference Center in Albany. The Long Island Language Arts Council will also honor Casey at their Annual Honor Award Luncheon in May.
