Amityville schools host their own American Idol

High School and middle School students in the Amityville Public Schools had the opportunity to showcase their talents during the district's own "Amityville Idol" contest. Supported by the community group COMPASS, directed by Raymond Velez, the contest allowed students to audition and perform in front of their peers, family members, teachers and community members, who served as judges for the event. Acts included a drumline, dancers and singers, rock bands, a violinist and dramatic poetry readings. Community liaison for COMPASS and Amityville Memorial High School staff member Cole Cammaroto was also on hand to assist in facilitating the event and in supporting the talented students. At the end of the show, COMPASS presented the winners with plaques commemorating their participation and accomplishment. Runner up for the middle school was the student drumline and runner up for the high school was a student dance ensemble which performed to Lost Without You. First place went to student vocalists for their prideful rendition of Behold the Lamb. Winners were Amityville High School students Marlena Hamilton, Abbigail Facey, Dahlia Facey and Shalay Bryant.
