Amityville Library celebrates centennial The Amityville Library is celebrating its centennial year, this year, 2007. From a collection of 67 books housed in the home of a local resident, to a multitude of materials, including books, DVDs, CDs, computers and a variety of other printed materials, as well as cultural and educational programs, the Library continues to strive to meet the needs of the community. You are invited to visit the Library and enjoy the 100th year celebration. Come in and see a display by local artist, Fran Ackerman; artwork presented by Amityville school children; the showscase photographic display presented by Joe Turner, local photojournalist, capturing local events for 25 years and, who in 1996, received the first color front page for the Fire News in the paper's 27-year history and enjoy viewing the autographed copies of books by W.E.B. Dubois in the reference showcase.
The oral history program, inaugurated to honor the Centennial, beckons you to participate. You may set up an appointment to share your stories by contacting the Library at 631-264-0567 and ask to speak with Susan Benard-Handler.
