Amityville students win NY State Scholar Athlete Team Awards

Shown at left in the photo is the Amityville High School varsity girl's volleyball team with Coach Howard Reiner.
One of the most coveted distinctions an athlete can attain, is to perform to the highest level, not just on the field, but in the classroom as well. The Amityville A t h l e t i c s Department has strict standards that determine if a student is eligible to participate on a district team, however New York State standards for athletic excellence are even more stringent. The State awards the honor of Scholar Athlete Team to any group of players who maintain a cumulative team average over 90 percent. The district is pleased to announce that for the first time in almost a decade, two of its teams, girls volleyball, coached by Howard Reiner, and girls tennis, coached by Rich Pelligrino, won New York State Scholar Athlete Team Awards, each with a cumulative average over 90 percent.
