Students complete walk to Florida program

As part of a district wellness initiative in physical education, Amityville Memorial High School students walked and/or ran during their physical education classes, the 1,122 miles necessary to travel from Amityville to Orlando, Florida. To motivate students, their progress was tracked on a map. It took each class approximately two weeks to make the journey. High school physical education department members Colleen Charles, Billy Maisel, and Hank Carpenter facilitated the activity. The students shown are those who logged the most miles. Left to right, standing, are Melissa Marshall, Abbigail Facey, Dwayne Nation, Victor Sims, Kristen Emmerich, and Walter Johnson and kneeling are Corrine Jackman, Kadeidra Henry, Martin Nation and Denva Allen.
