Our Lady of Consolation's resident celebrates 105th birthday

On January 15, 2007, Our Lady of Consolation's eldest resident, Rita Suglia, celebrated her 105th birthday. A party was held in Suglia's honor, which included friends, family and staff who joined to celebrate this monumental event.

Suglia was born on January 25, 1902, in Matera, Italy. In 1904 Rita and her family arrived on Ellis Island with the promise of a better life. After finishing school, she pursued a lifetime career in the insurance industry. She worked at Aetna Insurance Company and then for Gen- eral Cover Insurance, where she eventually became head of payroll. One of Suglia's proudest moments was in 1950, when she cruised the Atlantic on the Queen Mary to visit Rome for the Holy Year, there she met the Pope where she tells of him stopping in front of her and asking her name and her country.

S u g l i a ' s smile, kindness and compassion is contagious to all that meet her. Our Lady of Consolation celebrates the life of all their residents and celebrating Suglia's special day is part of their mission.
