Police arrest inmate with commiting numerous burglaries while on work-release program Suffolk County Police arrested a Bay Shore man for a string of burglaries taking place throughout the County during the past month. Christopher Turner, 39, of 1393 E. 3rd Ave., Bay Shore, has been linked to 10 burglaries taking place in the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Precincts over the past month. Nassau County Police Department 7th Squad detectives have also linked Turner to several burglaries in Nassau as well. Yesterday morning at approximately 5:55 a.m., the Suffolk County Police Department received a 9-1-1 call from a woman in her home on Higbie Lane in West Islip, stating that a man wearing dark clothes and a dark knit hat had been in her house, ran out, and money was missing from her pocketbook. Prior to the 911 call, the woman phoned her husband about the burglary. He returned to the neighbor - hood and located a man fitting the description his wife had given him. He followed the man, who was on foot for about a quarter mile in his car but lost sight of him. The police had many marked and unmarked cars, a helicopter and K-9 units looking for the suspect. At about 7:10 a.m., Turner was spotted by Third Precinct officer Joe Link, hiding under a car in a driveway on W.4th St., in West Islip. Link arrested Turner and placed him into custody without incident. Police also received a 9-1-1 call at 8:58 a.m. yesterday from another resident on Higbie Lane, stating that they too had been burglarized. Investigation by Third Squad detectives revealed that Turner had committed this burglary shortly before the one mentioned above. Turner is an inmate at the Lincoln Correctional Facility in Manhattan. He was sentenced in 1999 to 10 years in jail for a string of burglaries in Nassau and Suffolk Counties, but is on work release. T urner committed these crimes while on work release.
Turner has been charged in Suffolk County with seven counts of Burglary 2nd degree, and will be arraigned at First District Court on Thursday, January 25th.
