Public Commentary Dear Editor: I question the prudence of placing a State Motor Vehicle Office in a residential area like the Carman's Plaza Mall. This installation will increase the motor vehicle traffic by an immense amount, since the main entrance will be at Carmans Road and Violet Street. Another entrance from Route 110 will run through, via Ritter Avenue, a Town of Oyster Bay playground, the H. Garrick Williams Park. On the Carmans Road side of the mall is a school with young children. Ironically when Loew's Home stores wanted to build a store at the junction of Sunrise Highway and Louden Street, they were denied permission to build. The reason for the denial was given that the motor vehicle traffic would be excessively heavy. This area was not in a residential area. There were no homes involved. This area is a major shopping area with a major mall. How in the name of reason can anyone justify moving this state organization to a residential location when it has been condemned for its ill effect on traffic at its original location on a state highway, Route 110.
