Herta Wille: longtime, creative Amityville resident

Longtime Amityville homemaker and loving matriarch Herta L. Wille died January 2, 2007. She was 90 years old and had emigrated to the area from Hannover, Germany in 1922.

After growing up in a house her father built on County Line Road in Amityville, she later moved to Manhattan and Whiting, New Jersey before moving back to Amityville to raise her own family. She lived on Lindy Avenue in Amityville for 28 years until retiring to New Jersey around 1980; and moved back to LongIsland in 2000 to live with her daughter in Wantagh.

According to her family, Mrs. Wille was a creative soul who loved to paint in oils, do ceramics, play the accordion and garden.She was a longtime parishioner of Simpson Methodist Church in Amityville and a member of several bridge and pinochle clubs.

Mrs. Wille leaves behind her children: Margaret Ekholm and her husband Robert and William; her grandchildren: William, John, Diana, Robyn and Robert; her great grandchildren: Colin, Ryan, Mia, Hannah, Jacob and Shane; as well as other loved ones and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Jack C. and her great granddaughter, Emma.

She reposed at he Charles G. Schmitt Funeral Home, Seaford, on January 5, 2007 followed by a religious service. Interment of ashes was held January 13, 2007 with interment in Pinelawn Memorial Park.
