Teacher responds to article on ASD grievance decision Dear Editor: I am writing to set the record straight. You recently published an article titled, "ATA wins grievance decision; school board considers appeal." I do not wish to respond to the issues involved in this arbitration. I will leave that to the NYSUT legal representative, the school district's legal representative and the NY state arbiter. I do feel compelled to respond to a statement printed in this article referring to me. The school district quoted me as, "acknowledging under cross examination that despite teaching in the Middle School, I have only elementary certification and am not certified to teach 7th and 8th grade, nor can I teach the other secondary level classes, 9-12." This is not the whole truth. The fact is I do indeed have an elementary certification for grades N-6, but this is not my only certification. I also hold a certification to teach Mathematics in grades 7-9. Therefore, I could teach any grade in the Middle School as well as the 9th grade at the High School. Unfortunately, the Amityville Record did not contact me before printing a quote supposedly made by me. Linda A. Deasy, teacher
E.W.Miles Middle School Editor's Note: Several calls over a two week period were left at the ATA office with no response.
