St. Martin of Tours students play the stock market

The seventh and eighth grade students at St. Martin of Tours School in Amityville have been playing the stock market game on eleven different teams Wednesdays and Thursdays after school. Each team is given $100,000 in virtual money to buy stocks. They began playing the game October 10th and end December 15th. The students have an opportunity to buy and sell stock, review their portfolios, read financial statements, and track the stocks on the computer.

St. Martin’s has a team in eighth place, and one in 25th place, out of 311 teams on Long Island. The school also has a team that finished in 50th place out of 1,436 teams.

Seventh grade teachers, Mrs. Nehr and Mrs. Maguire, coordinated this program for the Junior High students.
