Amity Village hires Ass’t. building inspector
“There is so much going on that we think this is a good move,” said Mayor Peter T. Imbert in making the announcement. “Tom will give John a hand in what has to be done and give the Village another inspector to ensure that not only the major projects but all other work is being done.” Whalen has been in construction for 20 years and has owned his own company for 15 years. He will work part time at a salary of $17.50 per hour for up to 20 hours a week. Under his employment agreement, Whalen will not be able to undertake any construction project in the Village that requires a building permit or special approvals. A resident of Amityville since 1981, Whalen is an officer with the Unqua Corinthian Yacht Club and is active in Little League and Soccer. He is married and has two children. “I wanted to get involved in the Village somehow because I live here and it is beautiful and I want to keep it that way,” said Whalen in discussing his new position. “I think I can be an asset to the Village.” In other Village news, the board: approved a snow and ice agreement between the New York State Department of Transportation for 2006-07; authorized payment of $2,500 to J.D. Fleet Services for the repair of fire unit 1-1-6; heard from Amityville Village Fire Chief that the Fire Department’s new ambulance has been received and was put into service Sunday, Nov. 26.
The next regular Village Board of Trustees meeting is December 27, 2006.
