Northwest students achieve in Library Reading Program
For some of Amityville’s littlest students, who are already completing their third month of school, summer was filled with adventure found not only in the thrill of carefree, outdoor activities, but also in the Amityville Public Library, which opened its annual Summer Reading Program to all Amityville students. At the elementary level, students were required to read six books over a seven-week period. Northwest Elementary Principal Stacey Fischer, along with Reading Specialists Phyllis Heckman and Carol Seehof, honored their young readers at a reception noting their achievement. “The students who participated in this program deserve special
recognition for their accomplishment,” stated Fisher. “Through this little ceremony, and the positive reinforcement it provides, our goal is to encourage even more students to participate next summer.”
In addition to the congratulations the young readers received from their principal and teachers, the Amityville Public Teachers Association (APTC) and the Amityville Teachers Association (ATA), purchased books for each student as a gift to celebrate his or her accomplishment.
