Amityville woman named America's top car buff
While visiting Armor All's online Owner Center, an internet domain where car owners can find techniques and swap tips for car detailing, Lozowski entered a nationwide essay contest describing why her car is the hottest in town because of her use of Armor All Products. She included a picture of her 2006 Monte Carlo SS with the entry. After being picked as a semi-finalist, she and her husband Billy, were flown down to North Carolina to face off against other contestants from Louisiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, and Colorado. At Wood Brothers/ST Motorsports in Harrisburg, Lozowski and her opponents were paired with members of Paul Wood's #47 Armor All Busch Series pit crew. The assembled group then watched as five 2006 Ford Fusions were splattered with buckets of mud. Once an attorney determind that the cars were equally dirty, the contestants had twenty minutes and an array of products to clean and detail the Fusions. After review by a celebrity panel of #47 driver John Wood and Big Dane of West Coast Customs (featured in MTV's Pimp My Ride), Lozowski was declared the winner. In recognition of her car-cleaning prowess, Lozowski was rewarded with a $10,000 Dream Garage designed by Wood and a spot as an honorary pit crew member for Wood's #47 car at the Dollar General 300 race the next night at Loew's Motor Speedway. Rather than simply being allowed to stand in the pits and watch, she and her husband actually participated, replacing tires on the car during the race.
The DIY DARE contest was established to reveal America's top car cleaning enthusiasts for whom car washes simply won't do, and the Lozowskis are no exception. Owning a total of six cars, the Lozowskis, active members of the Amityville Historical Society, often drive their three antiques in Amityville parades, all of which they clean and maintain themselves.
