Amityville Public Library year long centennial celebration

The Amityville Public Library will begin a yearlong centennial celebration in January, 2007. The Library's charter was granted on October 17, 1907 and the Library has seen many changes since that time. Patron Appreciation Year is the theme for the centennial with many special events and unique programs for patrons of all ages. These events will include concerts and musical shows for various ages and tastes, a local author lecture series, lectures on local history, art displays from local artists and much more.

Beginning in January, the Library will initiate the Amityville Oral History Program. Patrons will be invited to share stories of their unique relationship with the library and the areas that are served, including the Village of Amityville, North Amityville and East Massapequa. These reminiscences will be placed on the Library's website as well as catalogued and made part of the collection for checkout. The local historical society will be dedicating its 2007 Amityville Historical Society Fair to the 100th anniversary of the Library.
