Copiague's youngest students participate in Fire Prevention Safety Awareness competition
Copiague School District's youngest students were invited to participate in the Copiague Fire Department's annual Fire Prevention Safety Awareness competition. The response was overwhelming, as students in kindergarten through fifth grade demonstrated their knowledge about preventing cooking fires and the safety rules that should always be followed. The younger students submitted safety posters for consideration, while the older students shared their safety tips through essays.
During a special awards ceremony hosted at the Copiague Fire Department, families and invited guests applauded as each winner was individually recognized and awarded a medallion. "This event is a joint venture between the Copiague School District and the community," stated Fire Chief Arthur Steigert. "Education doesn't only happen in the classrooms. We believe the community must do its part to help educate our children." In addition, one overall winner in each grade level received a $50 Toys R Us gift certificate.
