Amityville soccer News Strong defense and exhilarating offense permeated on October 22, when the Amityville Baymen (U 14) continued their undefeated season with a 4-3 victory over the Baymen Hurricanes. Matt Graham had two headers for goals; James Blotiau and Brian Kretz had the other goals. Great defense was contributed by Paul Kronenberg, Art Morales and John Siemer. Skip ahead to 11/5 and the Baymen continued their undefeated season with a shut out over the Sachem Roma, 4 - 0. There was great offense and defense by the whole team. Donald Kronenberg had body sacrificing saves and goals were racked up by Brian Kretz, Ron Cabos and Victor Sanchez. For a third straight game, the Gunners (U 13) excelled on the field but suffered a one goal defeat. A skilled Auburndale team traveled in from Queens with their hair dyed team-colored green, which may have given them the edge (plus an ill-timed penalty kick), 2-1. Tommy O'Connell scored the lone Gunner goal, with hustle and muscle supplied by Brendan Monahan, Chris Young, Steve Sison, Brian Oliver and Kyle Stratford. Finally, the tables turned when the Gunners' tenacity paid off, drubbing Garden City a 4-1. Anthony Vasquez led the charge with 2 goals, with Carlos Vasquez and Dylan Rosser each netting one. Mike Mehary provided assists and Bobby Kretz, as always, was formidable on defense. The roll continued against Carle Place. Carlos Umano had an almost perfect shot that just needed Anthony (2 goals) Vasquez's tap in to seal a 2-1 victory. Brendan Monahan was a monster in goal, Nick Gluth and Matt Parker played impeccable defense and Max Morin helped lead the offensive charge. The U-9 Falcons improved their record to 5-0-1. Niklas Coles and Austin Quinn combined in goal for their first shutout. Johnny Grahn scored (3) goals in the first half. Other goals were scored by Katherine Eastwood, Anna Gribbon and Trevor Quinn. Juliana Vigerito again ran the offense as midfielder, while Chris Monahan and Carly Viverito controlled the defense. Next, the Falcons faced their toughest test this season. On a wind swept day with 40 MPH gusts they came from behind for a 4-3 win and improved their unbeaten record to 6-0-1. Their normally solid defense cracked against the wind, but their strong offensive play led to three second half goals. They trailed 3-2 with three minutes left to play when Austin Quinn scored two goals in two minutes after being pulled from goal. The defense then shut the door with Chris Monahan in goal to seal the victory.
The following week, Nick DeMarco and Paige Akalski played great offense and challenged the Falcons' defense in a back and forth battle leading to three scores. It took five goals by Austin Quinn and one by Niklas Coles to hold them off. Anna Gribbon played solid offense at right wing. In the second half, Carly Viverito on defense and Chris Monahan in goal held firm to ensure the 6-3 win.
