Amityville Library celebrates centennial

The Amityville Public Library will be commencing a year-long centennial celebration in January of 2007. The Library's charter was granted on October 17, 1907 and the Library has seen many changes since that time. Patron Appreciation Year is the theme for the centennial with many special events and unique programs for patrons of all ages.

These events will include concerts and musical shows for various ages and tastes, a local author lecture series, lectures on local history, art displays from local artists and much more. Beginning in

January the Library will initiate the Amityville Oral History Program. Patrons will be invited to share stories of their unique relationship to the Library and to the Village of Amityville. These reminiscences will be placed on the Library's website as well as catalogues and made part of the collection for checkout. In addition, the Amityville Historical Society Fair will be dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Library.
