Amityville Woman's Club Junior League awards scholarships
Katherine Thorn The Junior League of the Amityville Woman's Club, Inc. awarded scholarships to five new graduates from the Amityville community. The awards of $2,500 each are proceeds from the 2005 Holiday Homes Tour, a festive event sponsored by the Junior League each December to raise funds for scholarships and local charities.
"This is the most rewarding part of my involvement in the Junior League," explains Junior League President Annmarie Noone. "The goal of the Amityville Junior League is to enrich the lives of our community members. Being able to provide financial assistance for five local graduates to pursue higher education is deeply gratifying."
The 2005 scholarships were awarded to graduates from both Amityville
High School and local private schools. The awardees include Bridget Nugent for George Wa s h i n g t o n U n i v e r s i t y, K a t h e r i n e Thorn for Towson University, Kenysha Thompson for G e o r g i a SouthWestern State University, Destiny Sorelli for the School of Visual Arts and Sarah Kretz for Cornell.
