Great South Bay Power Squadron to offer Safe boating courses this fall
The Adult Public Safe Boating course and the Boat Smart Course for 10 to 14-year-olds, will be offered this fall at the East Islip Middle School, 100 Redmen St., off the Craig B. Gariepy Avenue (north of Sunrise Highway), Islip Terrace, beginning Wednesday, October 11, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Registration for the class will be open to the first 60 people who sign up online at www.gsbps.org and link on to GSB Public Courses and also on the first evening of classes from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 11 at the East Islip Middle School cafeteria.
The Adult Safe Boating Course will meet on the following dates: October 11, 18 and 25 and November 1, 8, 15 and 29. The Boat Smart Course meets on October 11, 18 and 25 and November 1 and 8.
The instruction given in the Boating Courses is the best way to learn the basics of safe boating, for new, as well as experienced boaters.
The topics included in the course are boat handling and seamanship, boat types, equipment regulations and safe operation and state and local regulations.
The Safe Boating Course is being offered to the public by the Great South Bay Power Squadron of the United States Power Squadrons.
The course is free but there is a nominal fee of $48 for the boating book for adults and $30 for the Boat Smart book for 10 to 14 year olds. In addition, the navigational plotters and dividers are $6 each.
