Henry "Hank" Edwin Podsen, Jr., an Amityville native, who loved surfing at West Gilgo and won numerous swimming awards racing for the Unqua Corinthian Yacht Club, died on Thursday June 28, 2006 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Georgia. Born on November 9, 1943, to Henry and Marion (Reiners) in Lawrenceville, Illinois, while his father served in the army, Hank grew up on Ocean Avenue in Amityville. A 1961 graduate of Amityville Memorial High School, he attended Concordia College and graduated from Lycoming College in 1967 along with his brother, John Colin Podsen. In 1968, he served in the United States Army in Saigon, Vietnam. On return, Hank traveled cross-country and returned to Amityville. After three years with WestA life motto attributed to him by his sister-inlaw at his eulogy on Saturday, July 15, 2006 sums up his interactions with all who knew him well: "Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, for as long as you can."
Hank Podsen leaves behind his beloved wife of 34 years, India; his sons: Joseph and his wife Kennille, and Stephen Blake; his granddaughter, Courtney Podsen; his mother, Marion Reiners Podsen of Amityville; his brother, John Colin Podsen of Eppworth, Georgia; his sisters, Karin Elizabeth Lord of Alpharetta, Georgia and Barbara Jean Homola of Amityville; as well as many other loved ones and friends.
Hank was a fabulous cook who loved entertaining friends. He and his wife, India, loved riding horses, as well as motorcycles, breeding German Shepards, among numerous other interests.
Funeral services
for Mr. Podsen were held in Georgia.
