Leslie Szalay, Retired Republic Mechanic

Leslie A. Szalay worked as an aircraft mechanic for 47 years at Fairchild Republic in Farmingdale until his retirement. He died June 4, 2006. He was 87.

The devoted father and husband lived on Briarwood Road in North Massapequa for 40 years before relocating to Centereach to be closer to his family. He was an avid antique collector and reader, according to his family who said they'd miss his "quick wit and sense of humor."

Mr. Szalay leaves behind his daughters: Madeline Capanzano and her husband Frank of Centereach and Barbara Glynn and her husband Jerry of Atlanta, Georgia; his grandchildren: Frankie, Jared, Courtney, Kyle, Amanda, Jessica and Patrick. He was predeceased by his wife Margaret.

Mr. Szalay reposed at Moloney's Lake Funeral Home, 132 Ronkonkoma Ave., Lake Ronkonkoma on June 5, 2006. A religious service was held in the funeral home on June 6, 2006 followed by interment on June 7, 2006 at Pinelawn Memorial Park, Pinelawn, New York.
